The Lantern of the Laughless Saint FAQ
All Questions
Is it "Laughless Saint" or "Loveless Saint"?
It is The Lantern of the Laughless Saint — laughless, meaning without laughter. "Loveless Saint" is a common mishearing, and at least one walkthrough narrator says it out loud by mistake. You will also see "Lantern of a Laughless Saint" and just "Laughless Saint", which all refer to the same NerveLabs game.
Is this an Elder Scrolls or Morrowind game?
No. It is an independent game by NerveLabs with no connection to Bethesda or the Elder Scrolls series. The confusion is understandable: the developers describe it as "inspired by Morrowind", it uses use-based skills and spell crafting, and Update 7 even describes marking the map in a "TES3-style way". But it is an original setting with its own island, Tower and Amphitheater.
Does the game have codes or promo codes?
No. This is a paid single-player and co-op RPG on Steam, not a live-service or mobile game, and it has no promo code system. Any site offering "Laughless Saint codes" is describing a feature the game does not have.
How many players can play co-op?
The entire campaign is playable in co-op, with online co-op, shared and split screen, and Remote Play Together all listed on Steam. Steam does not publish a numeric player cap and NerveLabs has not stated one; a community session recorded three players together. See our co-op guide for what is confirmed.
Can I play it solo?
Yes. Single-player is listed first among the Steam categories and the game is built around solo play, with co-op as an option rather than a requirement. There is no matchmaking or server dependency.
How much does it cost?
$19.99 USD on Steam, with a 10% launch discount bringing it to $17.99 when we checked on 24 August 2026. There is no DLC and no in-game purchases listed.
Is it on PS5, Xbox or GOG?
No. Steam data lists Windows only, with Mac and Linux unsupported, and NerveLabs has announced no console or GOG release. Steam Deck compatibility has not been rated by Valve yet — that is "unknown", not "unsupported".
Why can I not cast any spells?
Because magic must be taught by an NPC, not unlocked in a menu. Find the apprentice jinn in Magdal Rest — behind the shop, into the tavern, then right toward the well — and complete The Lost Tome quest for him. He then teaches you the basics and gives you a free tome.
Where is the official Discord and community?
NerveLabs links their Discord from the Steam store page and actively asks for bug reports there and in the Steam Discussions for app 3849000, saying they are "on standby to fix anything that arises". Discussion also happens on the r/Morrowind and r/rpg_gamers subreddits and on RPGWatch.
The game crashes right after the NerveLabs logo. What do I do?
Update your GPU drivers. The developers flagged this directly and added a warning popup for Nvidia drivers below version 600, stating older drivers are the source of most crashes. If you are on a laptop, also check the game is using your dedicated GPU rather than the integrated one — a fix for that misselection shipped in an early hotfix.
Does it support mods?
Not officially. There is no Steam Workshop listing among the game's store categories and no modding announcement across NerveLabs' updates. Given seven builds shipped in the first five days, anything built against the launch executable would already be outdated.
Is the game finished?
No — it is early access and openly rough. A day-two hotfix alone contained over 40 bug fixes. Steam reviews are Very Positive at 87% (786 of 899) as of 24 August 2026, and one reviewer summarised it as "a lot of potential and a lot of bugs".
