Fisherman Friend and Early Unique Weapons

Why the Fisherman’s Friend is worth the trip

At a glance 55 damage sounds unremarkable. In context it is not:

WeaponDamageNotes
Two-handed sword (early generic)30
One-handed sword (early generic)40
Fisherman’s Friend55+10 swimming, plus damage over time
Innash greatsword68+20 arcane — from Rust in Peace

It beats both common early swords, adds damage over time on top, and grants +10 swimming — which is not a throwaway stat in a game where swimming the coastline is the safe way to reach half the quest destinations (fast travel).

And you can get it almost from the beginning.

How the quest starts

It is the second quest from the merchant Peaches, after Nuisance gets you your shack. He asks you to recover his ring.

The route

The destination is a beach past the Tower, and the cave you are looking for is the Blind Grotto.

  1. Travel past the tower to the beach.
  2. Continue forward along the beach until a huge tower comes into view directly in front of you. It is unmissable.
  3. Begin climbing.
  4. The tricky part: the main road leads you all the way along, but where you actually need to go is off toward an archer positioned above. Ignore the archer and continue through the pass.
  5. Keep ascending to the top of the tower.
  6. There are a couple of enemies at the top — you can ignore them.
  7. Open the treasure chest. It contains the Fisherman’s Friend, a spell, and several potions.

The bridge you probably cannot cross yet

While climbing, you will see a bridge that looks jumpable. The walkthrough author tried repeatedly and failed, because their acrobatics skill was not high enough, and flagged it as an unsolved mystery — something is over there, and they could not reach it.

This is a good example of how the game gates content by skill rather than by key items. Acrobatics rises through use like everything else (skills), so this is worth returning to later. If you come back with high acrobatics or a fortify effect from spell crafting, that bridge is likely reachable.

Other notable weapons and items

Confirmed items observed in the shipped build, with the caveat that this is not an exhaustive list — NerveLabs has published no item database, and the store page claims over 100 equippable items:

ItemWhat is confirmed
Innash greatsword68 damage, +20 arcane. Quest reward, Rust in Peace
Fine swordHidden in grass near Peaches at the very start — free
Tarnished GreatswordSeen equipped in official screenshots
Ornate swordVendor stock, observed at 2,100 gold
Alchemist’s item+15 alchemy while equipped (alchemy)
A very good, expensive bowOn the southern island in Moon in the Man
Peasant setCheap starter clothing; peasant boots give 1 armour
Stone breadAdded Update 7. Looks like food, is not food — eating it hurts you

We have deliberately not built a full weapons tier list. With 100+ items undocumented by the developer and balance actively churning — Update 7 rebalanced one-handed weapons and explicitly flagged “another future balance change - stay tuned” — a ranking published today would be wrong by next week.

Free armour at the very start

Worth knowing for a fresh character: the skeletons in the Nuisance quest drop a complete basic outfit — pants and boots from the first, shirt and leggings from the second. You do not need to buy starting armour.
